Frequently asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Do I need a referral from my GP?

No. Simply contact Cassandra who will be happy to arrange your appointment. Your child may be eligible for partial Medicare rebates (see FEES), in which case a GP referral is required.

  • How long will I have to wait for an appointment or report?

In most cases you will be offered an initial appointment within two weeks, this will depend on your flexibility. After your assessment(s)have been completed, comprehensive reports are generally completed within one month (this may be shorter or longer depending on the time of year).

  • How long is each session?

Sessions vary between 30, 45 and 60 minutes depending on the age of your child and the purpose of the appointment. Assessments take longer than average therapy sessions. Standard therapy appointments are 45 minutes, although younger children typically cope better with shorter appointments of 30 minutes.

  • How often will I need to come?

This depends on the nature of the problem(s) and the level of concern. I will be happy to discuss this with you and to make specific recommendations once I am acquainted with you and your child, and after your assessment has been completed. Most of the time I will recommend that your child would benefit from attending once weekly sessions for a set period of time (for example, 45mins per week for 8 weeks) as this builds a strong relationship, develops a familiar routine and emphasizes the importance of consistency). Depending on your child, this can then become less intensive (for example, 45mins every fortnight or every three-weeks) to suit your needs.

  • How long will therapy take?

This is a tricky question, as it can be difficult to predict treatment length since many factors influence the success of therapy. Depending on the nature and severity of the difficulty your child has, therapy could last from just a few weeks to a number of months or years. Children with complex needs may requireongoing support. If this is the case I will be happy to discuss the management plan and agree to a number of therapy sessions with a review date for future decision-making.
